We Survived the First Week!

Ms. Nina in Room 305

The first week of school is always full of emotions from both the students and the teachers. It’s understandable because most of us spent the past two months without a strict regiment. Now, most of our days are run by bells, and, let’s face it, it takes a while to get used to! But, on the flip side, we get to see our friends regularly, we get to learn new things every day, and we get to become better together. So, for those who had a rough start to the school year, keep that chin up!

There’s a lot of shuffling that can occur during the first week of school and many of my students are new to the school, so I try to keep the activities light, while pre-assessing students’ skills and knowledge. I like starting the school year seeing what students think about art. It gets their feet wet and there’s never a wrong answer.

In addition to the three levels of art classes I teach, I also have a Study Lab. They didn’t have much homework during the first week, so a few opted to take one of my drawing pre-assessments. The drawing of “Bill the Cat” posted above was drawn by one of my Study Lab students. Needless to say, I encouraged her to switch her schedule and now she is in my high school art class!

It has been a pleasure meeting all my new students and seeing all students I taught last year. I look forward to learning about each and every one of the young women in my classroom, and I hope that through my art class, they will see the world in different ways.
